About me:
I'm a new mom and am about to start some specialty training in medicine, so I'm always on the lookout for quick, tastey meals. I am by no means a good cook yet, but I'm getting more compliments lately, and my confidence is growing. I and my family love spicey foods with lots of flavors. I have a burning question, what is "curry powder"? Whenever it's in a dish I get confused, bc there are so many kinds! Am I missing something?

Nippy Cheese

Reviewed on Dec. 28, 2008 by SQUEAKYCHU
I made the recipe exactly as written except for using soy milk instead of cream which I did not have. I thought it was okay, but not spectacular. I think the sweet pickled relish takes over the taste of the cheese too much.

Wild Rice and Squash Pilaf

Reviewed on Dec. 26, 2008 by SQUEAKYCHU
The complex taste of this recipe was really good. I used two things I'd never used before - kabocha squash (a winter squash) and wild rice. I made it exactly as the recipe said with the exception of not using savory which I did not have. Instead, I substituted 1/2 tsp. thyme and 1/4 tsp sage. I think this is a wonderful vegetable dish although it takes a bit of time to prepare. I think the time is well worth the wait. My daughter disliked this recipe because she doesn't like wild rice; my husband called this pilaf "interesting". I, however, loved it!

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed on Dec. 24, 2008 by carlyjfrederick
I made this for our office Thanksgiving luncheon this year--I wanted something withOUT marshmallows on top as we only have a microwave for reheating. This was EXCELLENT! It reheated well and tasted GREAT! The only modification I did was substitute evaporated milk for the cream and add a pinch of ginger and allspice. It is a keeper and I'm making it for our family Christmas dinner tomorrow. WONDERFUL recipe!
