Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2008
I had the kids make these cookies today, as they were off of school for election day. They are very good. They ARE chewy like the kind you see in bakeries. Instead of the chocolate chips, we used a bag of the Heath bits. YUM!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
I thought my Mom's banana nut bread was the best until I tried this. This is banana-nut-bread HEAVEN!!! I added some nutmeg and ginger for a little more kick, and I thoroughly enjoyed every last muffin <3

Brazilian Black Bean Stew

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
I made this for dinner (and dinners all week!) last night, and I couldn't think of a reason to rate it less than five stars. Here are some things I did a tiny bit differently: -A tiny bit of EVOO (instead of Canola) -I bought Habanero and Green chile turkey sausage -Did not use ham -Used fresh roma tomatoes from a friend's garden, instead of canned (tried to reserve as much juice as possible) -Added a diced, seeded habanero and red chile pepper (it actually didn't end up too spicy, although my nose was running a bit!) The stew was so yummy, and so colorful and pretty to look at! I noticed someone had trouble with the sweet potatoes softening fast enough -- just make sure you dice everything in small, bite-sized pieces and you won't have a problem with that. This was SO GOOD. One of the all-time best recipes I've made from this site.

Blueberry Pie

This was REALLY easy to make and really yummy. I'd never made a pie before and it was so easy. The pre-made pie crusts really help.

Watermelon Fire and Ice Salsa

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2008
Maybe I ruined the recipe by adding an extra jalapeno and another fresh hot pepper from my friend's garden, but it was way too spicy and strange-tasting, and I love spicy food. No one really got into it at our fourth of July get together. I think it might have been better, however, on fish or chicken than with chips. (And really it's my fault for making it too spicy.)

Bacon-Cheddar Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
This was pretty good. I don't LOVE bacon so it wasn't my thing (four strips may be a little much). However some other people at our fourth of July get together thought they were great, so if you love the ingredients I say it's worth a shot. I used spicy mustard instead of honey, based on what I had, and added green onions because I had some leftover from another recipe. Overall just okay. Too bacon-y for me.

Cali's Sinful Creme Brulee

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2008
This was my first time making creme brulee, and it turned out great! Couple things I did. I heated the cream/sugar/salt over a double boiler until hot, but not boiling. I tempered the eggs as stated in the recipe before adding them to the cream mixture. Once I added the egg mixture, I heated again until hot, but not boiling - then strained into a bowl with a pour spout. I used the water bath as suggested, but did not cover them with the foil. I baked for about 45 minutes, as my ramekins were not the short, wide ones - but the narrower, taller ones (I got 5 out of this recipe). I cooled them for about 10 minutes before refrigerating them. I also brought them to room temp (about 40 minutes) before carmelizing the top. I used the broiler, but I think I will invest in a kitchen torch for the next time, as it made the mixture too hot, and I didn't have time to cool them again before serving. The taste was WONDERFUL!

Mocha Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2008
Ijust made these muffins - and they are very good! I will definately make them again. The only change I made to the recipe was used a heaping tablespoon of the coffee granules, and about 2 tablespoons of water. They have a nice "mocha" flavor, which is not too overpowering. I also used mini chocolate chips, which I think disperse better in muffin recipes than the larger chips. I got 12 regular size muffins, as well as 24 mini muffins out of the recipe. Thanks for the recipe!

Fiesta Pinwheels

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2008
I made these for a baby shower we had for someone at work. They were a big hit! My boss had some and told me later "whoever made those cheese roll-up things did a great job!" I used diced red pepper instead of green onion because the onions at the store were awful looking. Delicious!

Lemon Garlic Tilapia

This was pretty good. I would add sea salt next time. I'm not normally a big salt person, but this was almost too 'simple' of a taste for me.
