I made this for dinner (and dinners all week!) last night, and I couldn't think of a reason to rate it less than five stars. Here are some things I did a tiny bit differently:
-A tiny bit of EVOO (instead of Canola)
-I bought Habanero and Green chile turkey sausage
-Did not use ham
-Used fresh roma tomatoes from a friend's garden, instead of canned (tried to reserve as much juice as possible)
-Added a diced, seeded habanero and red chile pepper (it actually didn't end up too spicy, although my nose was running a bit!)
The stew was so yummy, and so colorful and pretty to look at! I noticed someone had trouble with the sweet potatoes softening fast enough -- just make sure you dice everything in small, bite-sized pieces and you won't have a problem with that.
This was SO GOOD. One of the all-time best recipes I've made from this site.
